The history of Split
The story of Split goes way back to 3rd century, dating to the time the Roman Emperor Diocletian decided to build a Palace for his purpose right on the peninsula near the great Roman city Solin (Salona), where he wanted to spend and enjoy the last years of his life. During these 1700 years the Palace was surrounded with additional infrastructure, which made the Palace put in the heart of the city of Split. Split lures with its rich tradition, history and beauty of its natural and cultural heritage. `
